Greetings everyone,

For today, I would like to sum up all the post and the knowledge based on this subject which I have learned in one. In the beginning of the course I had learned about ‘The Schools Of Thought’, which will be Cognitive, Humanistic, and Behaviorism. In the beginning I was wondering how is it to implement all these schools in teaching is. But as I kept learning, I manage to learn identify it. These three schools of thought play a vital role in teaching.

Apart from that, I have managed to learn how to prepare an appropriate and complete lesson plan. I also had learned how to make the lesson more interesting by giving interesting and attractive activity. Not forgetting our assignment required to do mock teaching. It was really interesting and I and my friends manage do give our best for it. There are things we need to improve, we will improve and become the great teachers in the future.

As future teacher, I manage to learn about importance and the effective ways of classroom management. It was really use full. I managed to integrate the knowledge learned such as HOTS, LOTS, Blooms Taxonomy, theories, and etc in daily life and also in other educational subjects. The course pedagogy does not only educate the method and the practice of teaching and learning but it also help to identify what type of teachers, we are.(cognitive, humanistic, and behaviorist).

Thank you for reading my blog, and for your wonderful support. Keep reading and keep learning more. Have a great day ahead. Take care.

Effective Classroom Management

Hello Everyone,

I would like to share   few ways of effective classroom management. Classroom management is one of the things which a teacher needs to manage well. To have well managed class a teacher should,

1.

Setting rules in the classroom will be very helpful and effective at the same time. When a teacher sets few rules which need to be followed during his/her class, it will automatically become a discipline among the students. the teacher can set creative and innovative rules as their like such as can sit next to their friend, can use the play area for a longer time if the students complete the homework earlier and more.

This will indicate the students to accomplish work well and to behave well in class. Apart from that, the teacher needs to be more specific with their rule setting because, let’s assume that the teacher allows the students to eat in the class, if the following day the students would bring home cooked food, nasi kandar or more and eat in class. The teacher cannot question the student because she gave the permission to eat (tit-bits) in the class but the students misused it.

Teacher need to be specific in each and everything so that students would not misinterpret and take advantage of the rule setting. Hence, setting specific rules can become a trade mark for the teacher such as, in teacher Devi’s class the students can use the computer for longer time if they complete the homework quickly and correctly.

2.

Time management is really important for a teacher. If a teacher is poor in time management he/she would not be able to complete their lesson in time. For an example, the class starts at 10 am and the teacher attend the class at 10.10 am. The lesson will be incomplete because unable to end the lesson as planned.

When the teacher set the rule they can be particular in timing also. For an example, class after assembly or science (students need to go to the lab). The teacher can set rules that the students can be only five minutes late for the class and before the teacher enters the class must be in a ready situation to teach and learn.

Moreover for a single period class, teacher can make the class more effective by make the students answer for the work sheets in the class while discussing. This will conduct a Q&A session where teacher and students are engaged to strengthen the bonding and also gain knowledge. By doing this teacher can also reduce the homework load for the students. Thus, to have a clear record teacher can write the homework done in class under reflection to help whoever checks their record book to understand better.

3.    Teaching approaches.

Teaching approaches are the ways teachers used while conducting the lesson for an example complimenting the student, giving positive/negative feedback in a very adaptive way and more. In classroom teacher might also face problems with student’s behavior such as the hyperactive student, the slow learner, the cheeky student, cunning students, self isolating student and more.

To deal with student’s behavior teacher can take down their behavioral change in the anecdotal book or the teacher can personally approach the students to clarify their problem. For an example, when teacher tries to approach or talk to the student. The student might avoid the teacher or cut of the conversation.

The teacher can try several approaches to communicate with the student to identify whether the problem is with the teachers teaching methods or with the student. The result will be either the student cooperate or keeps avoiding. Such students might have personal or family problems which they feel shame to express.

There are also students who do not like teacher and because of that they will not pay attention in the class. To shape such problematic students it might take longer time but the teacher must not lose their hope and need to keep on trying. It is because as a teacher, we did not only educate the students but we do play several roles n their life.

Teacher is a person who takes initiative to shape their students behavior to product a better human capital and also to shape the society. That is all for today, hope had a great time reading, please do leave feedback below by commenting and have a marvelous
 day a head.
Thank you.

Classroom Management

Hi everyone,
Today I would like to share about the article which we had read in our lesson about classroom management. Classroom management is important but if the particular teacher is lack of classroom management various problems and issues might occur. Let’s see few examples of the issues,

As you can see in the picture, the behavior of the teacher towards the students due to some reasons.  An incident takes place at Kepala Batas, Malaysia where a teacher beat the student to the max and gave him Rm 2 to keep the incident secretly.

In the morning, a student primary school student came late to the school and the teacher chocked, punched and stomped the student. And when other teacher were to question the teacher explained that the student came late to school by bicycle with a modified handlebar which is against the school’s regulation.

And few other teacher of the school gave food and some to the particular student and told him to ask for apologies from the teacher. And after the student did as the other teachers told the teacher who beaten him gave the student Rm 2 to keep the incident secretly. The after school when the student’s father saw serious injuries on his son’s body. The father filed a complaint at the police station and further action was taken.

There are also few other incidents take place such as, Oku student allegedly bruised after canning by teacher at Kluang, Malaysia an etc. Thus, these incidents take place because the particular teachers are lack in lack in emotional, self influence and classroom managements. When a particular person chooses to become a teacher he/she should have the passions to handle things with children. Because children will have more than one characteristic, as teacher we have to manage and shape them to become a better person.

For the first incident where the teacher gave money to keep the incident secretly, the teacher could have warned the student for coming late for school and should have explained to him about the school’s regulation due to his bicycle’s handlebar. And if the student still repeats the same behavior, the teacher can give him more punishment (without injuring the student) by any psychological punishments or worse comes to worse call the students parents to have a discussion based on their child’s attitude.

Teacher who involve in such cases should imagine their own children in the particular situation, so that they can realize that it will be so painful for the parents to see their children been beat up seriously for small mistakes. As a teacher, we should thing 100 times before doing anything because once the teacher name is spoiled or had a bad remark it will last forever. And teacher with such behavior is a shame for the rest of the teachers.

We should think then only react, if the other way around. You may get yourself in serious trouble. Thank you for reading my post and do leave a comment based on such incidents. Hope to hear more from you. Have a great day ahead.

Tips For Effective Mock Teaching

Hi everyone,

Today I just want to share few tips which I have observed and learned from my lecturers and teachers on “How to Prepare for a Mock Teaching”.  So here we go,

1.

The student who are doing mock teaching should be themselves in the first place. It is because due to the preparation and the nervousness to do it well, we tend to forget the trade mark of ourselves. For an example, a student who is so funny, hyper active and etc. The student can be so unnatural and they even tend to stammer while presenting in front of people.  Students must be relax and focus on what need to be present, so that it would not be a presentation lack of content. It is hard but practice makes it possible.

2.     Chill out and breathe.

It is easy to do a mock teaching or any presentation when you are not nervous. It is because, when a person gets nervous they will start to sweat, facial expression will change, burst into tears, and worse come to worse they will faint.  While presenting  the presenter should be relaxed and with full confidences the presentation should take place, then the presentation will be a piece of cake.

It is OK to do mistake while presentation, it is because we have our professionals (teachers, lecturers and trainers) to help us all the time. When we make mistakes and we will learn more how to do the particular thing more perfectly. Remember everyone learns from mistakes.

3.    Take a view of the exercise from a student’s mentally.

For a mock teaching we will be required to do lesson plan and come up with activities to be done with the students. To make the activity more interesting, think from a student’s view. So that we can identify whether the activity is interesting or not.   Thus, it will help us to come up with more activity which can attract student’s interest.

4.    Do student centered teaching.

To make the lesson we prepare more student centered, we can inject more interesting educational activities such as crossword puzzle, scrabble, Q&A sessions and etc.  Ask them to do it, when they do it. They will learn more, experience last longer than theories. Hence, the content can be conveyed in a interesting way.  It   will make the lesson more interesting and it can be an effective teaching and learning process.

5.    Be approachable.

Be a teacher who can be easily approach when students face difficulties such as how to complete the homework correctly, when discipline problem raise, to get advice for personal problem and etc. Such characteristic can make a teacher to be carrying about their student and to bring changes in their life. It can be implement in mock teaching by asking your students, how was their day?, had their breakfast or not ? and more.

Those are the things which I have learned from the previous mock teaching which I and my friends did.  Hope it could be improved in the future and useful for the reader. Thank you for reading my blog and give your feedback by commenting. Hope you had a great time. See you soon.

Mock Teaching

Hi fellow friends and teachers,

Today I am going to share about my first mock teaching experience. Yes, today was our assignment submission together with the mock teaching.  We were required to choose one of the schools of thought and to come up with 3 lesson plan with attached appendix. So I had chosen the third school of thought which will be the behavioural school of thought.

The reason, I would like to emphasize more on behaviour because, in reality a person is valued or judged by his/ her behaviour approach, and when a person improves their behaviour for betterment the cognitive and humanistic leaning process can take place effectively and thoroughly. Behaviourism has its own theories to relate to make the teaching and learning process easy.  Appropriate behaviour can bring all other things with the flow.
My lesson plans was plan based on;

1.    Environment, proper ways to plant and prevent nature. (mock teaching)

2.    Patriotism, recall Malaysian history by relating historical places and cross word puzzle.

3.    Prevent animal, ways to help abused animal by viewing a video and sharing ideas by doing I-think mind map.

The teaching experience was awesome, something really new. Because, i have planned the lesson plan and while my friends pretend to be the students. I am really blessed to have friend like them. It is because, there were so supportive and cooperative while I was conducting my lesson in the class.

I was the second last person to present my lesson and after everyone has complete them comes the feedback session by our lecturer. it was a positive reinforcement as for me, she emphasized that, I need to be more formal in my communicating language. It is because, I conducted the lesson as I was talking to my friends. Actually I was, but as a future teacher I need to be more formal while communicating.

She also told that the lesson should be carried out as planed cannot be changed or skip steps. At that moment, I realised that i have missed a step due to nervousness. And I need to make sure the time is sufficient to complete the lesson as planned, time management is really important and as my students carried out the activity I need to compliment them as a reward so that they will have the interest to do the following activity.

Last but not least, she told that my activity was really interesting and will stimulate students interest to participate.Overall it was new experiences for me and I need to brush up at few steps to be a professional teacher. I hope and believe as time goes on I will reach up to that level by working hard.

That is the end of mock teaching experience. Please give your opinion about my mock teaching and keep viewing my blog. See you soon, until than take care and enjoy the day ahead.
Thank you.

Behavioural Approaches to Teaching

Hello everyone,

I’m back to share what I have learned in class today. Today I have learned about the behavioural approaches to teaching. It helps the educators to conveying information in small steps, while implementing many illustrations, such as:
1.    Computer – assisted instruction (CAI).
It a medium which could be used to get students engaged. CAI has many different types of programmes that are available with the follows of Operant Conditioning, stimuli-response- reinforcement.
It is also could be used to as a cognitive approach such as programmed instruction, which helps students to learn new computing concept, software and illustrate them fluently.

2.    Mastery Learning –  it is a concept to make students master the knowledge. So that they can remember for longer time and make us of it. Moreover, students will make the decision to choose what to be learn, which means it depends on their interest. When students are interested in the subject/topic, they will take the initiative to learn more about it. Teachers will analyse things in more details to identify their students’ interest.

3.    Precision Teaching –  this method will be a great success when students apply the skills learned .  Teacher will observe and give feedback so students will learn from their mistakes, positive and negative reinforcement. Students will keep on improving themselves “practice makes perfect”. Moreover this way of teaching will help students to gain two years of academic growth in one.

4.    Applied Behavioural Analysis – behavioural beliefs and findings with the principle of Operant conditioning. Teachers will use the ABC concept to bring out students hidden potential. (Antecedent, Behavioural, Consequences).

Before the class ends today, we had a small sum up session with our lecture. Where every student need to explain what they have learned and understand about the 3 theories (cognitive, humanistic and behavioural).  So each student come forward and shared what they had learned so far. The activity was so exciting and every student did that sharing in their own way. Some did mind map, some write down points, some relate the example and more. From this itself we can see and realise every student as different potential and ways to convey things.

That is the completion of the 3 theories. Waiting to get feedback from you all. Do leave a comment and enjoy reading my upcoming posts. Thank you for reading. Have a blissful day ahead.

The Behavioural School of Thought (Third School)

The Behavioural School of Thought. ( Third School).

Hi everyone,

Today i would like to share new information about behaviourism.  For the word itself we can classify that this school will mainly emphasize on behavioural of people.  In this school of thought, I manage to learn how find students could interest, environmental stimuli, observable learners or modify the learner’s environment to bring changes. I also managed to learn about contiguity, classical conditioning, operant conditioning and social learning.

Contiguity relates to the stimulus – response pairing. It is like when there is an implementation or act there will be an outcome or reaction. More towards like, you find the solution earlier to avoid the consequences. For an example, a teacher can ask the students to recall what they have learned in the previous class so that the students would not forget what have been taught to them. Moreover it will make the students to take the initiative to revise what the teacher have taught because they know that before his/her lesson begins this Q & A session will take place, Stimulus and responses.

Apart from that classical conditioning, operant conditioning and social learning, we can refer to the following psychologist such as:
1.    Ivan Pavlov is well known for operant conditioning. Where he has integrated the contiguity as a part in his theory.

2.    Frederick Skinner – is famous for Operant Conditioning because it helps teachers to have a apply the theory in teaching and learning process to make it more efficient. For an example, teacher will reward or give feedback to implement positive and negative reinforcement to make sure students improve their behaviour after that.

3.    Albert Bandura – emphasize on social learning. Where learners/students can and will learn more things by observing. They will have a role model  like parents, teacher or etc. They will do whatever they said and do. Children will imitate them.

There are few things, which I will be learning in the upcoming class about behaviourism, so please do keep viewing my blog and do leave a comment to share your feedback. See you all next week.  Thank you, take care and have a wonderful day ahead.

The Humanistic School Of Thought (second school)

Hi friends and respective teachers,

For today I would like to share about the second school of thought which is “The Humanistic School of Thought”.  The word humanistic means those correct stances that pinpoint the values and agency of human being.  When I hear the word humanistic, the only thing that comes to my mind is “Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs”.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs explains that human need to fulfil each level thoroughly so that they can move to next level, as they are building their individual potential. Thus, humanistic school practices to accept each child (learners) in a unique way, in order to make them feel valuable about themselves. In other point of view, that should be every teachers main belief so that the teaching and learning (T&L) process will take place effectively and students would not have to hide their own character, “each child can do it in their own way”.

Belief of the Humanistic School

In this belief, i have understood that teachers play a main role in shaping students and teaching learning process for betterment. It is because, teachers need to inject positive values to their students. As they began to have respect and feel worth towards themselves and others. Evan though, students have different opinion on certain things or specific behavior, teachers should not judge a book by its cover.

We won’t know what problems they are facing and indeed teacher need to take the initiative to help them and class should be child made to fit the school.  To conduct an effective learning class, teachers need to think from students’ point of view to make learning process more interesting and as well students understand better about values and feelings.

Humanistic Approaches to Teaching and Learning.

Humanistic approaches contains four new was to make teaching learning process more fluency by,

a)     Inviting School Success.

·         Teachers accept students the way they are,
·         High respectfulness among both,
·         No biasness among students,
·         No personal feeling in teachers’ criticism.

b)   Values clarification.
·         Suitable teaching methods for the students’ ability,
·         Identify students believe,
·         Value and feel it,
·         If valued inject it for good changes.

c)   Moral Education.
·         Value and citizen education is conveyed,
·         Students should have respected role model,
·         Build better atmosphere in classroom,
·         Encourage students for high academic, good behavior and values.

d) Multi ethnic Education.
·         Education which refers to arts, culture, and more,
·         Encourage students to learn revere their root and culture,
·         Expose to different types of culture and diversity.

By applying humanistic approaches we can experience wonderful results. I will stop here for today, see you soon in my next post. Please do give your feedback below and keep learning. Have a wonderful day ahead.
Thank you.
