The Behavioural School of Thought (Third School)

The Behavioural School of Thought. ( Third School).

Hi everyone,

Today i would like to share new information about behaviourism.  For the word itself we can classify that this school will mainly emphasize on behavioural of people.  In this school of thought, I manage to learn how find students could interest, environmental stimuli, observable learners or modify the learner’s environment to bring changes. I also managed to learn about contiguity, classical conditioning, operant conditioning and social learning.

Contiguity relates to the stimulus – response pairing. It is like when there is an implementation or act there will be an outcome or reaction. More towards like, you find the solution earlier to avoid the consequences. For an example, a teacher can ask the students to recall what they have learned in the previous class so that the students would not forget what have been taught to them. Moreover it will make the students to take the initiative to revise what the teacher have taught because they know that before his/her lesson begins this Q & A session will take place, Stimulus and responses.

Apart from that classical conditioning, operant conditioning and social learning, we can refer to the following psychologist such as:
1.    Ivan Pavlov is well known for operant conditioning. Where he has integrated the contiguity as a part in his theory.

2.    Frederick Skinner – is famous for Operant Conditioning because it helps teachers to have a apply the theory in teaching and learning process to make it more efficient. For an example, teacher will reward or give feedback to implement positive and negative reinforcement to make sure students improve their behaviour after that.

3.    Albert Bandura – emphasize on social learning. Where learners/students can and will learn more things by observing. They will have a role model  like parents, teacher or etc. They will do whatever they said and do. Children will imitate them.

There are few things, which I will be learning in the upcoming class about behaviourism, so please do keep viewing my blog and do leave a comment to share your feedback. See you all next week.  Thank you, take care and have a wonderful day ahead.

  2. Hi dear,to make you clear about the stimulus and response i can give example about the hunger baby. The baby will cry when he/she is hungry and it will be feeded. so whenever the baby is hungry, so the baby will cry and get feed, the stimulus will be the crying and the response will be the baby get feed.
