The Humanistic School Of Thought (second school)

Hi friends and respective teachers,

For today I would like to share about the second school of thought which is “The Humanistic School of Thought”.  The word humanistic means those correct stances that pinpoint the values and agency of human being.  When I hear the word humanistic, the only thing that comes to my mind is “Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs”.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs explains that human need to fulfil each level thoroughly so that they can move to next level, as they are building their individual potential. Thus, humanistic school practices to accept each child (learners) in a unique way, in order to make them feel valuable about themselves. In other point of view, that should be every teachers main belief so that the teaching and learning (T&L) process will take place effectively and students would not have to hide their own character, “each child can do it in their own way”.

Belief of the Humanistic School

In this belief, i have understood that teachers play a main role in shaping students and teaching learning process for betterment. It is because, teachers need to inject positive values to their students. As they began to have respect and feel worth towards themselves and others. Evan though, students have different opinion on certain things or specific behavior, teachers should not judge a book by its cover.

We won’t know what problems they are facing and indeed teacher need to take the initiative to help them and class should be child made to fit the school.  To conduct an effective learning class, teachers need to think from students’ point of view to make learning process more interesting and as well students understand better about values and feelings.

Humanistic Approaches to Teaching and Learning.

Humanistic approaches contains four new was to make teaching learning process more fluency by,

a)     Inviting School Success.

·         Teachers accept students the way they are,
·         High respectfulness among both,
·         No biasness among students,
·         No personal feeling in teachers’ criticism.

b)   Values clarification.
·         Suitable teaching methods for the students’ ability,
·         Identify students believe,
·         Value and feel it,
·         If valued inject it for good changes.

c)   Moral Education.
·         Value and citizen education is conveyed,
·         Students should have respected role model,
·         Build better atmosphere in classroom,
·         Encourage students for high academic, good behavior and values.

d) Multi ethnic Education.
·         Education which refers to arts, culture, and more,
·         Encourage students to learn revere their root and culture,
·         Expose to different types of culture and diversity.

By applying humanistic approaches we can experience wonderful results. I will stop here for today, see you soon in my next post. Please do give your feedback below and keep learning. Have a wonderful day ahead.
Thank you.
